Sermoneta is a charming medieval village, set on a hilltop located 70 kilometres south of Rome (only 40 minutes by train) on the way to Naples.

Its original
layout has been completely preserved, together with most of the original buildings and
monuments, dominated by the Caetani Castle, dating back to the thirteenth century, which
is used for open-air concerts during the summer.

Below the village is Ninfa botanic garden which was created around the ancient ruins of a once thriving feudal town completely destroyed by malaria in the seventeenth century. The garden is open for visiting from April to October each year.

This area falls within the Park of Monti Lepini and is therefore an ideal base for walking (local maps available), but is also only 30 minutes drive away from the wonderful dunes on the coast at Sabaudia, coastal lakes and the National Park of Circeo.
